Our patient felt she didn't have the degree of cosmetic perfection she wanted. She honestly felt that the relationship of her exposed tooth structures didn't match up aesthetically with the amount of gum tissue she had.Crown Lengthening - Gummy Smile SurgeryReducing the amount of gum tissue, whether for the upper or lower (maxillary and manibular) arches can be achieved through different types of periodontic treatments and with different types of technologies.Gingival recontouring or gum shaping can be achieved by trimming the gingival tissues directly, either with a laser, periosurge or periodontic scalpels. This recontouring process can also be achieved with Crown Lengthening, which involves highly selective removal of bone tissue. Dr. Nemeth provides an accurate analysis of which treatment modality best suits the patient's interests for a particular cosmetic result and for assuring that certain functional characteristics of tooth structures are maintained.

A combination of medications (Versed and Valium) along with IV Sedation created the treatment environment that was perfect for both the patient and Dr. Nemeth.
Guided Tissue GrowthDr. Nemeth selected the use of a scalpel and used Emdogain barrier to facilitate and control tissue regeneration where it was specifically needed.Specialized periodontic suture material (ethicon) was used where indicated. The 3rd picture in our treatment series reveals that amount of change that has occured on the entire upper arch. The gum tissues have undergone several weeks of healing, revealing attractive, symmetrical gingival arches on the patient's upper teeth. 
The adjacent, 4th photo is yet another post operative picture showing final completion of treatment.
