Gingival Reshaping and Contouring

Before Photo Picture Gum Shaping Contouring Our patient is a 30 something woman who is a professional ballerina.

The patient was very conscious of her physical appearance and was at the point where she was no longer happy with her smile and the overall condition of her teeth.

The recommendations of her cosmetic restorative dentist included new porcelain veneers and crowns. It was decided, in addition, that crown lengthening would be performed on a tooth by tooth basis.

The patient's dentist referred the patient to Dr. Nemeth to assure the best level of tooth structure balance and symmetry possible that would become the foundation for obtaining the best cosmetic outcome possible with her new veneer and porcelain crown treatments.

After Photo Picture Gum Shaping Contouring It was the goal of the patient to have teeth that were proportionately sized and to have gum tissue that was natural in appearance and arched each tooth symmetrically. Dr. Nemeth's crown lengthening procedures (also commonly known as gum shaping, recontouring, reshaping, etc.) would create a cosmetic result that would improve on what Mother Nature had originally provided.

Connective tissue grafting was also performed as needed to restore optimal oral health.

After Photo Picture Gum Shaping Contouring IV sedation was administered using Valium and Versed. Dr. Nemeth used a combination of a scalpel and a high speed dental burr for recontouring bone on some tooth structures, as needed.

Some tooth structures had insufficient gum tissues which typically create the appearance of long teeth. Dr. Nemeth performed specialized connective tissue grafts (CT grafting) to the affected teeth.

The tissue graft material was harvested from the patient's palate. Ethicon was the suture material of choice.

After Photo Picture Gum Shaping Contouring Total healing time for the procedures was about two weeks. She experienced minimal discomfort and said it was much easier than she anticipated.

The patient was thrilled with the results of her visit to our office. Afterwards, when her cosmetic dentist completed the final porcelain restorations (porcelain crowns and veneers), she was absolutely elated.

Based on patient self report, she stated Dr. Nemeth's periodontic procedures and the porcelain crown and veneer makeover treatment provided by her restorative dentist changed her life. Self confidence in her career and social activities skyrocketed.
