As our first pre operative photo shows, she has good lip support, healthy gingival tissues and a pretty good smile line (curvature of biting edges of upper teeth matches the arc of the lower lip).Nonetheless ... our patient wanted to improve what she had. The adjacent 2nd and 3rd pictures show closeups of her teeth, and in particular the lack of uniformity in the sizes of individual teeth. The 3rd photo reveals teeth that appear to be very small. 
The patient's gingival tissues on her posterior teeth were healthy ... which is good. But, according to the patient, there was just too much of it. After consulting with Dr. Nemeth, our patient learned that her tooth structures and soft tissues were very healthy and essentially needed only to be selectively altered and trimmed to produce what Mother Nature normally provides. 
Cosmetic Periodontal Tissue SurgeryDr. Nemeth used combinations of peridontal surgery treatments to remove only slight amounts of gingival tissues on some tooth structures and larger amounts of tissue on selected teeth, as needed to create the symmetry the patient wanted.A comparison of the 3rd and 4th pictures demonstrates the effects of crown lengthening with good detail. Notice how excess gum tissue was reduced both above and surrounding the posterior teeth.
